Design
Toyota has given the Tacoma a significant makeover. The interior is more stylish and comfortable, with premium materials. The TRD Pro trim features an IsoDynamic seat, which uses an air-over-oil system to minimize bumpiness on rough driving surfaces.
The exterior of the Tacoma has been optimized for off-roading. The Trailhunter trim has a higher clearance, ARB modular sport bar, high-mount air intake, and an ARB steel rear bumper.
Performance

Every new Tacoma has a 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that pairs with your choice of a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine comes with three different power outputs. Standard models produce 228 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque, a significant upgrade from the standard 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque found on last year's model. Drivers who want more power can opt for a model with either 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque (or 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque with a manual transmission). You can also add a hybrid motor, upping the combined output to 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is available.
Safety
The Tacoma model comes standard with a variety of helpful safety features, bundled with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite. Standard automatic high-beam lights that turn on automatically when they are needed and off when the system senses light from a vehicle ahead of you. Other notable standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and lane centering. Available safety features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic detection, and a 360-degree camera system.
